The senior students of Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Education of Kocaeli University planted tress around their faculty. Young trees provided by the faculty management were planted by the Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Servettin Bilir, faculty staff and students. Prof. Dr. Servettin Bilir said that Umuttepe Campus needed afforestation and landscape planning since it was a newly established campus, and that it was pleasing to get such a demand from the students. Stating that youth was not indifferent to environmental problems, and that they weren't made aware enough of the issue, Prof. Dr. Servettin Bilir said "I hope this responsive attitude of our students will also set an example for the others. We wanted to contribute to the solution of the problem in today's world in which the ecological balance has been severely disturbed." Prof. Dr. Servettin Bilir thanked to Nur Kaman Güçlü, who consulted the students and the tree planting activity. Senior class student İlker Kurt, who said they all believed that it would be very pleasing to see these trees as a memory from them when they came to their university years after they graduated, expressed that they had chosen permanent and enduring trees such as plane-tree, acacia, pine, arborvitae and leylandi.
